A wise man once said that with great power comes great responsibility. And what is true of superheroes is just as true of Hollywood movie studios. They have the power to shape pop culture, but with that they also have the responsibility to not totally f**k everything up -- especially when dealing with a beloved character like Spider-Man.
All of which is our way of saying that the first teaser trailer for "The Amazing Spider-Man" has just arrived (now in good quality after yesterday's shaky-cam "bootleg" version) -- and it looks like everyone involved has handled their responsibilities just fine.
That's certainly good news for fans who have been nervous about director Marc Webb's reboot; after all, Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" trilogy was one of the most popular film franchises of all time. And since it ended just a handful of years ago, Tobey Maguire's take of the web-slinging Peter Parker remains very fresh in everyone's minds, making new Spidey Andrew Garfield's job all that much harder.
But thankfully, based on this trailer it looks like Garfield and co-stars Emma Stone and Martin Sheen have all brought their A-game to what is shaping up to be one of the big events of 2012 -- and what appears to be a darker, moodier "Spider-Man" the the original.
So check out the new trailer, courtesy of The Movie List, and which we can only assume will be playing for 6,000 strong this weekend at Comic-Con. Because when it's done right, responsibility can be truly great:
